Knowing the effects that the foods you eat have on your body, you can choose those that support your health. A diet of fresh organic vegetables, fruit, sea vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes, soybean products and herbs paves the road to optimal health. (Eliminating processed foods, and unhealthy fats and sugars from your diet, is very helpful.) Nutritionally rich foods full of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and fiber, are necessary for a healthy body.

Your approach to food also plays a big part in the digestion and absorption processes. Lifestyle, emotions, attitude, timing, habits and environment are all factors in the assimilation of nutrients for the construction and repair of cells and the nourishment of the "whole" body. For starters, many people eat more than they need, and their meals are overly complex. The optimal health of the body is best achieved by eating for the purpose of nourishment, rather than for emotional satisfaction.

Exercise

Walking is one of the best health promoting exercises for not only the body, but the mind as well. Walking is good for neurological stimulation of brain chemicals. Walking and hiking in nature is especially enjoyable and beneficial to your health.

Yogapostures are known to stimulate and regulate physiological processes such as digestion and respiration. They improve muscle tone, joint mobility and postural alignment, enhance the circulation of blood and lymph, and balance the hormonal and nervous systems. Yoga postures also help with proper positioning of the bones by toning and stretching the muscles. They also exercise internal organs - liver, spleen, pancreas, intestines, heart, lungs, and importantly… all of the endocrine glands. Yoga postures also supply fresh oxygen to the brain. The postures are psychologically uplifting as well, conveying caring, acceptance, support and empathy. Paula K presents a variety of techniques. Basic hatha yoga, gentle yoga, chair yoga, and bed yoga. Your unique capacities and limitations will determine which variety is best for you.
